Bathroom Sinks
Encyclopedia states that a bathroom sink is a bowl-shaped fixture that is used for washing hands, brushing teeth, etc. etc..... boring, boring!
Fortunately, the world is changing.
Actually, bathroom sinks are places of an immense pressure.
The energy around the sink in the morning is staggering.
These fixtures are irreplaceable for shaving, putting makeup (I mean, not at the same time...), scrubbing your teeth and keeping a general hygiene.
Thus, if the bathroom sinks are so important then they do not have to be boring.
Hoe to Choose Bathroom Sinks
There are three simple criteria in choosing bathroom sinks (bathroom basins):
- The size of the bathroom basins
- The material of the bathroom basins
- The style of the bathroom basins
The last item is not just for the esthetics. The style of a bathroom basin can also determine the practicality of the product.
Bathroom Sinks Sizes
Personally, the larger the bowl, the better. Paradoxically, a lot of people waste more water with smaller bowls than with the bigger ones. The big bathroom basins allow to retain more water for the face and hand washing before disposing it. Smaller basins do not have the capacity to retain enough water. Thus, water is not retained but let to run freely in smaller-sized bathroom sinks.
Bathroom Sinks Materials
There are number of materials used in bathroom sinks:
- Vitreous china
- Fireclay
- Stainless steel
- Copper
- Composite material
- Cast iron
Vitreous China and Fireclay Bathroom Sinks
Bathroom sinks made of vitreous china are elegant but prone to a damage. Vitreous china uses ceramics, which is non-porous. The same applies to heat resistant fireclay basins.
Stainless Steel Bathroom Sinks
Stainless steel bathroom sinks are usable, durable and easy to clean. They do not have the charm of the ceramic models but are increasingly fashionable items.
Copper Bathroom Sinks
Copper bathroom sinks are a bit of the novelty and nostalgia for the past. The material is durable and does not rust but the price is high.
Composite-material Bathroom Sinks
The composite-material bathroom basins are the most popular choices. These products are durable and easy to shape.
Cast Iron Bathroom Sinks
Finally, the cast iron sinks are the feature of older homes. These models are heavy but contain a coat of enamel to give the porcelain look. Because of the outer coating, the cast iron bathroom sinks are also prone to damages.
Bathroom Sinks Styles
There are number of bathroom sinks styles:
- The counter top bathroom sinks are very common. Here, the rim of the sink rests on the counter. The design is simple but practical. The weight of the sink ensures a good seal from side leaks.
- Undermount sinks are similar in the design to the countertop models. These bathroom sinks have their edge exposed at the hole containing the sink. Undermount sinks look stunning but they do require an expensive installation. They also need frequent changes of silicon strips.
- Pedestal bathroom sinks represent a real style. These products are frequent features of big bathrooms.
- Console bathroom sinks are very similar to pedestal models. These products offer more counter space, giving a beautiful look and the practical spatial solution.
- Vessel bathroom sinks are a current trend of a unique design. These models remind of old days but with far more stunning outlook. Vessel sinks sit freely on top of the counter. For this reason, basins are made of a high quality decorative material.
- Finally, the wall mounted sinks are feature of 60s and 70s were bathrooms became smaller. The wall mounted bathroom basins have the advantage of providing additional space underneath.
